What are the check-in/check-out times?

Guests can arrive after 4pm and we ask you to vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure. We regret that due to the time needed to clean the cottage we are not able to offer early check-in or late check-out.

Do you have a minimum stay requirement?

The minimum stay at Lock Cottage is 2 nights. However it is worth noting that in order to cover our costs we charge the same for a 2-night stay as for a 3-night stay. Why not book for 3 nights and benefit from a later check-out time?

Do you take pets?

Sorry no, we are an entirely pet-free property.

Is the property child-friendly?

Yes, we welcome families with children of all ages. For toddlers and infants we provide a travel cot (we ask that you bring your own bedding) and highchair. There is plastic dinnerware and cutlery in the kitchen. For children of all ages there are books, DVDs and games in The Snug, plus a games console for rainy days.

We must ask that children are not allowed on the balcony without adult supervision.

May I smoke in Lock Cottage?

No. We are a smoke-free property. Any guests found to have smoked in the cottage or anywhere on the site, including the garden, will be asked to pay for enhanced cleaning costs and may be asked to leave.

Does Lock Cottage have parking?

We have a space behind the cottage where guests may unload their bags on arrival. During your stay we ask that you park on Church View so as not to impede our neighbours’ access to the rear. There is plenty of free on-street parking in the village, usually directly in front of the cottage.

Can we bring extra guests?

To comply with the terms of our insurance we can only accept a maximum of 6 guests.

Can I charge my electric car?

Sorry, we can’t currently offer an electric charging point. There are two electric charging stations in Pickering.

How eco-friendly are you?

We are taking the following measures to be as green as possible.

Reducing single-use plastics by providing:

  • silicon sponges and biodegradable dishcloths

  • Smol dishwasher and washing machine tablets – entirely plastic-free and also certified vegan and cruelty-free

  • reusable food storage so our guests don’t need to use cling film or plastic bags

  • ice trays in the freezer so there’s no need to use disposable ice bags

Our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources.

The tea in our welcome pack is Yorkshire Tea, which has switched the plastic in their tea bags to plant-based plastic.

The coffee pods are from Roar Gill and are entirely compostable.

We’re always looking at ways to make the cottage greener and welcome any suggestions you may have.

Where’s the nearest place to eat out?

The Lockton Tea Rooms are 150m from our front door and serve breakfast and lunch with a variety of vegetarian and vegan options as well as homemade cakes. (Check their website or Facebook page for opening times.)

The Horseshoe Inn in Levisham is open for lunch and dinner – the chips are delicious!

There are also several restaurants in Pickering and Malton.

Can we get to Lock Cottage via public transport?
